Canadian apprentices earn a paycheque from day one β and the funding system stacks on top. Here are the major federal supports and where the provincial money lives, all from official sources.
Per period of block technical training, interest-free while you’re registered β and no repayment required until you finish or leave your program. Stackable across multiple training periods.
Registered apprentices attending full-time technical training can qualify for Employment Insurance benefits during those weeks β so the classroom blocks don’t leave you without income. Apply as soon as your training dates are confirmed.
The tradesperson’s tools deduction lets employed tradespeople deduct eligible new tool costs, and apprentice mechanics get an additional deduction. Tuition for eligible technical training can also generate tax credits. Keep every receipt.
Provinces run their own supports β training allowances, travel and tool grants, completion bonuses, and reduced-cost training seats. The programs and amounts change, so go straight to your provincial apprenticeship authority for the current list. We link every authority here.
